Penina

Penina Golf Course is one of the Algarve’s most historic courses and the birthplace of championship golf in southern Portugal. Designed by Sir Henry Cotton and opened in 1966, it was the region’s first 18-hole course and helped put the Algarve on the international golfing map. Built on what were once rice paddy fields, the Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course is notably flat and highly playable, with wide fairways, well-placed bunkers, water hazards, and fast greens that reward smart strategy over brute strength. A multiple host of the Portuguese Open, Penina remains a classic, enjoyable test of golf that reflects Sir Henry Cotton’s enduring design philosophy.
